A little light analysis of Italy's winning form in summer 2021

Amanda Williams • Aug 11, 2021

I originally planned a post about Japan and the Olympics. However, as those Olympics progressed I decided there was a more interesting story, that of Italy.

So far in 2021 Italy have won the Eurovision Song Contest, won the Football Euros, made it to the men’s final at Wimbledon and not only garnered more than their usual share of medals at the Olympics but did so in quite notable ways ( winning the men’s 100m and sharing a gold for the high jump). It looked like a case that would merit some investigation.

I first looked at what I predicted for Italy in summer 2021 in my (unpublished) long range forecasts for 2021-4. There was nothing conclusive however. I did say that Italy would be moving away from the past and that by August would see the people being more optimistic. Ok- but nothing dramatic, so, definitely, worth a more in depth assessment.

Looking at Italy’s chart in 2021 we do see some very clear significators at play. First we see that the progressed Sun, which moved into a new sign, Virgo, in 2020, is approaching a conjunction with progressed Mars. This conjunction will last through to 2030 and after a lull in 2025 will reach a peak in 2029/30. Interesting times.

Normally I would be focussing on what that all means for the government or leadership ( less flamboyant but more determined and driven). But today we are interested in other things. A conjunction of the Sun and Mars is all about the boys. Furthermore both planets are approaching a conjunction with progressed Jupiter- planet of luck and doing things the big way. Although they are 4 degrees apart – transits can activate this connection. Note, however, that there is an offsetting influence in the form of the country’s natal Saturn. Hard work is required to make any success happen.

So what other broad influences are happening in 2021? Progressed Venus is close to a conjunction with the MC. This will bring media attention, now and probably into the next couple of years too.

When we look at the transits we see that Pluto is sextile the Italian Sun and trine its Moon. Good for strength in both leadership and the people. But more importantly we see that transiting Jupiter in early Pisces opposes the progressed Sun/Mars and comes close to a conjunction with the progressed Mc in spring and summer- everything would be amplified.  Added to this, The North Node passes over the Italian Uranus and indeed its Descendant, making for big surprises.

On the other hand, there are few negating influences from the other outer planets such as Saturn, Neptune and Uranus this summer, though that will change in the coming years.

So the stage was definitely set for some big successes. And we can look more closely at some of the details.

Let’s start with the Euros. I’ve set two charts, both for the end of the final. One (above) is set for London and the other ( below) for Rome. We see from the London chart that transiting Jupiter is exactly opposite the Sun/Mars conjunction at that time and moreover the Ascendant for the moment of winning is conjunct that Jupiter. We see that Mercury is trine/sextile this too. Furthermore we see that transiting Mars has reached the Italian Jupiter and progressed Mercury as it is trine the MC of the moment.

That is pretty persuasive. But when we look at the Rome chart (in this case we have set the chart of the moment as the inner wheel) we see that the angles of the chart are highlighted at around zero degrees. This picks up that progressed Venus on the country’s MC. But more importantly it picks up the transiting Mercury at 0 degree Cancer.  We find it right down at the base of the chart – at the roots of the country. Football was definitely coming Rome.

Moving on to the other events. The Eurovision contest final took place on 22 May 2021. I don’t have a time for the announcement of the winner so we will consider only the wider picture. Transiting Jupiter is once again opposite the progressed Sun and is activated by the transiting Sun at 1 degree Gemini. We look to Venus in this case ( music) and see that Uranus is sextile Italy’s Venus and transiting Venus is close to a conjunction with progressed Venus. We love a double whammy here at Optimesia. Mars is also sextile the Italian Mars. It is not as convincing at chart as the Euros but there are certainly many signs of success.

What about the Olympics? For that I set a chart for the opening ceremony.

What is striking is that Jupiter which was at 0 degree Pisces in the Eurovision chart is back there( having gone retrograde at 2 degrees) when the Olympics started. And this time the Sun is a zero degrees Leo. Almost exactly two signs on from the Eurovision. Added to which transiting Venus is at 1 degree Virgo exactly conjunct the progressed Sun/Mars. This alone is enough to confirm that our winning pattern is going to be repeated in some way.

But even more interesting is a chart set for the 1st August in the afternoon Rome time ( when the country won its 2 most notable gold medals). We should not be too surprised by now to see transiting Mars conjunct the progressed Sun/Mars point. Male dominance. Though co-operation (a shared gold) is also highlighted with transiting Venus opposite Venus. But of course we can expect more than that. We find that Jupiter has regressed into Aquarius so is no longer at 0 degrees. But no worries, now it is at 29 degrees Aquarius and aspecting the progressed Venus and natal MC. This equals big news.  And just to top it off we see that there was a conjunction between the Sun and Mercury that day at 9 degrees Leo- exactly trine the Italian Ascendant.

We can see, therefore, time and again, how the broader positive conditions (don’t forget these will last a few years yet!) have been activated this summer to enable Italy to win and win again.

Furthermore we should not forget what was said at the beginning of this post; the reference to governmental changes.  As if in confirmation Ben Hall in the Financial Times today (11 Aug)  writes:

The former president of the European Central Bank has not quite performed the miracle of saving Italy, just as he saved the euro. But in six months he has laid the foundations for his country’s recovery and revival. For the first time in decades, Italy is no longer seen as a byword for political dysfunction. Given its debt burden and deep-seated economic problems it could still pose a systemic threat to the long-term viability of the single currency. But for now, Italy exudes optimism and confidence. And its progress is changing wider perceptions of the EU’s prospects as the pandemic recedes.
