Russia and the astrology of potential conflict with Ukraine 2022

I looked back at the forecast I had already prepared a year ago. One of the first things I pointed out was that the progressed Moon would cross the Ascendant in 2022 and eventually reach its natal position. My assumption was that this would resonate with the themes from the collapse of the USSR in 1989-91!!!

My forecast does not however specifically mention any attacks on neighbouring countries in the early part of the year. It does mention that in 2021-2 there will be difficulties which become more acute in January 2022 and these include the possibility of concerns that the leadership is weak and responses to that including confrontations. I did conclude that there was a militant mood in the country from May to August and this did not look like internal unrest but combined strength. But that seems too late for the current situation.

I also note that January 2022 may be a time when there would be a technology crackdown which is in line with the bans on crypto and related decisions.

However, my 4 year forecast was a broad outline so it definitely merits reconsidering in the light of the new information.

Looking at the chart we can first consider the broader picture. Pluto has been opposing the country’s moon and square its progressed Sun, this does not happy internal relations make even though it has also been trine its Neptune and progressed Venus which are somewhat mitigating.  Pluto has now reached a quincunx with the progressed Uranus, so it is not surprising that problems are breaking out. Rather as in the case of Ukraine, if there were no external challenges there would almost certainly be some form of internal unrest.

We also see that transiting Neptune will make its upcoming conjunction with Jupiter opposite the country’s Jupiter and square its Uranus. It is also quincunx the progressed Jupiter. This is interesting, it suggests that the country may have unrealistic visions and may bite off more than it can chew. We’ll have a better idea of that when the conjunction is exact in early April. It is also worth noting that this is probably not a good aspect for the country’s currency either.

While we are on the subject we can also consider the Saturn Mars conjunction at 21 Aquarius that precedes the Neptune Jupiter one.  This will at least make a more positive aspect to the country’s Uranus and progressed Jupiter suggesting that any conflict could be managed without getting out of hand. Though the quincunx with Jupiter suggests force could be disproportionate.

On balance I wouldn’t advise it!!!

Furthermore by 11^th February transiting Jupiter will cross the Russian Midheaven. Normally I would say that this would put it is the global spotlight but clearly it is a bit late for that! It could be a positive sign for the country suggesting success in its endeavours. However I remain concerned about the potential for hubris.

I have, as mentioned, set the chart for Feb 4^th. On that day the transiting Sun and Saturn are conjunct – that certainly gives strength to any leader. However it is conjunct the country’s Mercury so communications can be restricted or negative, even though Mercury itself goes direct that day. And the conjunction is happening on the country’s Descendant- which could mean rather than the Russian leadership being strong it comes up against an immovable object in the form of another country- the US perhaps?  Furthermore transiting Uranus is almost stationed on the country’s progressed Mercury through this period, that means a tendency for unexpected glitches.   

Another interesting factor to note, though, is the conjunction of transiting Mars and Venus. This lasts a few weeks but is exact when on the Russian Descendant. Indeed Mars first catches up with Venus and later Venus moves ahead. I have to admit I can’t be sure what this means but it could be positive as it could ultimately relate to treaties or agreements which would suggest some sort of resolution of the situation.

Mind you, these are inner planets so may only suggest temporary resolution. However, Mars is strong in its position in Capricorn and this could equally suggest it dominating a weaker party.  A further explanation is that this relates to economic ( Venus) sanctions ( Mars) imposed by the US/UN as a result of Russia’s actions. This is in some ways a better explanation as the conjunction is on the Descendant, so not necessarily within Russia’s control. Still, on balance,  it is probably better to see this configuration than not and certainly better to see Mars tempered by Venus than on its own or with Saturn which it will be a month or so later.



Looking forward over the coming years, it appears there are further issues to be addressed- relating to leadership, technology, propaganda. 2024 Looks particularly challenging. But that is part of other reports so we won’t delve into it here.
