The astrology of the asset freeze of Chelsea FC due to the Ukraine situation
Despite my brief diversion into tech matters, there is no getting away from the dreadful events of Ukraine.
However, before I return fully to the tragic events there, I thought I would have a look at one of the relatively less horrendous consequences; the freezing of Chelsea FC assets. Well, really Roman Abramovich’s assets but these include Chelsea.
Chelsea football club was apparently founded by agreement in a local pub on the evening of 10 March 1905. I have taken a time of 8pm as there doesn’t seem to be a recorded time. I like the Libra rising for a club that plays in blue. Sunset, (which has Virgo rising), might also work well. Later charts with a Scorpio rising won’t I think.

Yes, there is no typo, both dates are 10th March. I love astrology, although it sadly sometimes takes the worst of circumstances for it to demonstrate its full capacity.
Unsurprisingly given the date, we see that the transiting Sun is conjunct the Sun in the Chelsea chart. More surprisingly (if you are not an astrologer) we see that the transiting Moon is square the Sun. Because the club was created with a Pluto Sun square, the Moon is therefore conjunct the natal Pluto too.
We can also find our ubiquitous double whammy in the sextile between the progressed Pluto and progressed Moon. Where Pluto is concerned even a sextile is sometimes not a good thing. Especially when we see that Saturn at 19 Aquarius is trine the transiting Moon so adding metaphorical weight and literal hardship to the picture.
At the time of the announcement we also see that transiting Mars is conjunct the transiting Midheaven as is Venus. In my earlier Russian analysis I speculated that Mars/Venus represented economic sanctions and here it is representing the parallel activity- asset freezes. That the configuration occurs at the square to the Chelsea club natal Venus is almost inevitable.
We could pretty much leave it there, we have the monthly conditions triggered by the annual solar return and on the day by the Moon ( though in this case the Moon represents making the decision available to the public -it had already been made and probably implemented earlier that day), and we have the announcement of the freeze made at exactly the right moment.
However, as we are here, we can take a look at what else is happening in the chart.
Transiting Uranus is in opposition to the Chelsea natal Mars and assuming a correct foundation time progressed MC. It certainly seems as if the time cannot be far off, for it gives us another double whammy with Uranus to the progressed angles. With Mars representing conflict we see the reflection both of the conflict between the country and the club owner and the more tragic conflict in Ukraine.
If the foundation time is correct we see that the progressed Ascendant has crossed the natal Uranus and is approaching an opposition to the natal Neptune. A good description of sudden upsets leading to confusion and lack of direction. To some extent this is mitigated though as the axis is trine/sextile the natal Venus/Jupiter and indeed a grand trine with the Node. It is interesting to note that due to retrograde motion of Venus the conjunction has been in effect by progression throughout almost all of the history of the club.
That conjunction of the benefics ( also conjunct the natal Moon) is fundamental to the success of Chelsea. However it poses an interesting question. When does too much good become bad? For without it, Chelsea might never have been sold to Abramovich in the first place…….

More concerning for the longer term is that Venus is now finally moving away from the progressed Jupiter. I wonder whether we will ever again see quite the glories and wealth of this club?
We could also talk about transiting Mercury sextile Jupiter and close to conjunction with progressed Saturn . We could mention the recent opposition between Pluto and the progressed Mercury and we could speculate about the trine between Neptune (soon to be joined by Jupiter) and the natal Mars but there is really no need. This is textbook astrology at work, even if it does send a chill down your neck and make you wonder just how much of the shocking events of the last few weeks could really ever have been avoided…..
