Astrology of Russian invasion of Ukraine 2022 update

One of my remarks in my earlier post was that I was concerned that Jupiter crossing the Russian MC and conjoining the natal Sun on February 11^th could represent hubris.  Indeed Russia actually invaded on the 24^th/25th while Jupiter was exactly conjunct the Russian Sun at 12 degrees. It certainly seems that Putin believed that he could just walk into Ukraine and it would be acceptable. He clearly trusted the wrong advisers, perhaps they deliberately misled him.  

It is very interesting to see how this chart from 1613 still reflects events in Russia. Why you may ask? I think it is because, despite the major revolutions; first the shift to communism from 1917 and then the post 1989-91 embracing of capitalism, the fundamental nature of Russia as a country of relatively passive people dominated by a small group of autocratic leaders remains the same. Brief moments of enlightenment happen, with Lenin and with Gorbachev but things quickly regress to the status quo.

The chart’s square between Saturn and Mars conjunct Uranus and the opposition with Jupiter and Neptune hints at a tendency to the hubris (Jupiter Neptune) that I referenced earlier and instability (Uranus), often violent (Mars- Saturn). The trouble is that Mars square Neptune ( a characteristic of the USA which also has this configuration) does not make for easy conflict. IF Russia enters an existing conflict it can help but if it is starts its own then the chances of being mired down are extremely high. The fact that at the moment progressed Mars is activating the square only reinforces this.

The Sun conjunct Saturn also represents the dictatorial nature of many of the leaders, Stalin in particular, but its position in Pisces indicates something else- the ideology of that leadership. Of course the progressed Sun will mitigate this somewhat- it has been in Aries for 26 years, but the underlying structure remains. But while that ideology is coupled with strong man tactics the centre can never hold. Only with a leader who is able to remain a servant of the people (Pisces rather than a strong-arm dictator) and to co-operate rather than confront can the country thrive in the longer term whatever the economic model. ( Incidentally we only have 3-4 years more of the progressed Sun in Aries, Putin first became a leader (PM) in 1999 when the Sun which had progressed into Aries was in conjunction with the progressed Saturn so the last 26 years have been coloured by (t)his influence. It will be interesting to see what the shift to a Taurus leadership will bring). 

 In the more immediate term, given the importance of Jupiter’s position in the invasion chart tracking its journey will therefore be informative. By the time the transiting Sun ingresses into Aries Jupiter will conjoin the Russian natal Saturn and then its progressed Mars and will square its natal Mars when over-reach of military action is probable. This is likely to be a particularly dark time.  

So too is the date I’ve set my chart, 5^th April, when Saturn and Mars meet at 22 Aquarius. The fact that this is followed a few days later by the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Pisces, suggests that this may represent the most significant period in the invasion story. Indeed as it taps into the square I described above it is likely to be significant for the future of the country.

Moving to another theme, I was interested to note that my comment in the original post on the transiting Mars/Venus conjunction proved prescient. . “A further explanation is that this relates to economic ( Venus) sanctions ( Mars) imposed by the US/UN as a result of Russia’s actions. This is in some ways a better explanation as the conjunction is on the Descendant, so not necessarily within Russia’s control” I had no idea how extensive and radical those sanctions would turn out to be though. As of today (12^th March) Mars and Venus are square the Russian Pluto, this is peak asset freezing time among other things. It remains to be seen to what extent the average Russian experiences and understands the sanctions. They may just be used by Putin as part of the propaganda.

This leads me to perhaps the most interesting indicator in the chart. The progressed Moon will reach the Ascendant around 5^th April. This suggests that the people are about to become more important in the story. Indeed at present ( 2020-23 approx) the Russian progressed Sun ( leadership) is square the natal Moon ( people) suggesting a rather challenging relationship between the two. The fact that transiting Sun in early April will square the progressed Moon seems to suggest that this negative relationship will be most prominent then. By 2023 the Moon will reach its natal position, and be ripe for change at the end of one cycle and start of another.

Overall I feel there is a decided risk that the end result of this could be to gain Ukraine in the short term but ultimately to lose Russia.

Now I will turn with some trepidation to Ukraine.

To be honest I don’t really wish to publicaly predict how things will unfold for Ukraine as, at this point, that can help no-one. But it is reasonable to look at what has happened so far and some of the potential key dates in the next month or so.

In my initial analysis I said “…..within 12 months the progressed Ascendant will have reached the Ukraine Moon. This certainly suggests that the people are going to be caught up in whatever follows but also in determining how it plays out. With Moon in Aquarius they are not going to give up their independence lightly”.

I also noted that “transiting Mars, our trigger happy friend is right on the Ascendant of the Ukraine chart. Which is also very close to the chart Uranus too. This could indeed literally signify invasion, (though I would prefer the 7^th house for that) or a spirited defence.

This has certainly proved to be the case. Putin should have read my analysis.

The invasion started early on 24^th February. At that time the transiting Mars-Venus conjunction, at 22 Capricorn, had reached a trine with the progressed Mercury and was close to trine with natal Mars and quincunx progressed Venus plus Jupiter and Mercury. But the overarching player (as in the Russian chart) seems to have been Jupiter which had reached a square with the Ukraine progressed MC. Basically in astrologese the progressed MC of Ukraine has been square the Russian Sun for a year or so and thus Putin was triggered by that. 



Much of what followed though can be attributed to Mars ( with Venus) and Saturn.

When Venus and Mars conjoined at 0 degrees Aquarius on 6^th March they were on the Ukraine Saturn. On that day a US official noted that about 95% of the Russian troops were inside the country. The situation was confusing and brutal (Saturn), ceasefires, (Venus), to evacuate people were bombed ,( Mars).

Things have reached a very serious point as of today (12^th March)  with Saturn conjunct the Ukraine progressed Ascendant.  This will continue for the rest of the month.

The transiting Sun has today reached Neptune sextile the degree of the invasion

Another notable element of the Ukraine chart is the approach of transiting Uranus to the Ukraine IC. It is well within orb already. Of course Uranus is upheaval and disruption but another facet may be the refugees. I’ve seen many individual charts where Uranus on the IC leads to them emigrating – even to a different hemisphere, or where their ancestry is from overseas. It seems likely that those who are leaving the country now are fulfilling the dynamic of that Uranus transit.

Going forward we can expect the following days to be significant:

·        Around 21^st March when the Sun is at 0 Aries ( opposite the Ukraine progressed Sun)

·        Around 27 March when Venus reaches Saturn and the progressed Ascendant at 21 Aquarius

·        Early April especially 1^st when there is a new Moon trine the Ukraine progressed MC , Saturn is conjunct the Ukraine Moon, and 3^rd – 5^th April when Mars catches up with Saturn while Uranus crosses the Ukraine IC.

·        Around 12^th April when Jupiter and Neptune meet

As the 22-23 degree point features in so many financial charts we should expect the consequences of this invasion to be pretty widespread by this point.

But I think I will leave it there for the time being.
