The astrology of protests in Iran in September 2022
Our next September journey is to Iran. For the first time since I started this new blog.
The country has been hit by protests following the death of a young woman (Mahsa “Jina” Amini) killed in custody after failing to comply with the requirements of wearing a headscarf.
Sounds crazy when one writes it in black and white like that. But that is where we are.
Our thoughts go out to her family and those of other affected families and to all the women of Iran and any other country where women’s rights are threatened.
However, our job here is to be objective and just to consider the astrological correlations.
And once again astrology does not fail us.
Remember Pakistan and that Uranus at 18 Taurus on the 17 degree Ascendant. Here it is square the Ascendant and opposite its progressed position and well as Quincunx natal Pluto unfortunately. This is a critical time for the expression of freedom and opposition in Iran and the leaders would do well to accept that else the situation will become more disruptive. Another country to watch around the time of the eclipse in November.
Saturn, planet on restriction and crackdowns, is sitting on the Descendant. Not only is freedom of expression threatened in sudden shocking events but it is being challenged by the outside world.
How important the events of 16th September would be, is indicated by the Sun at midday on the progressed Ascendant of the country and trine the progressed Sun. Neptune opposes the Ascendant point, indicating confusions and as it approaches the natal Mars, new and cleverer ways to reject oppression. This is all about the leadership learning to let go a little. Or else.
Other relevant factors in the chart include the square between Pluto and progressed Venus. This has been ongoing and will remain in place until 2024. Both will change signs after that leading to a new environment. By 2027-8 progressed Venus conjoins progressed Mars, but that is a while away so I shall say no more now.
Going back to the medium term future, we can’t help but note that the progressed MC is going to oppose Mars in the next two years, That suggests more conflict unless there is a more pragmatic approach.
Another interesting factor in the chart is the position of the progressed Moon, significator of women as well as the people in general, at 29 degrees of Sagittarius trine progressed Mars in Aries and quincunx the natal Jupiter. At 29 degrees we are looking at last attempts at this approach. A move into the earth signs will mean more compliance on the one hand but more obstinacy on the other. Given what I have already said about the upcoming focus on Mars, I’d recommend a more moderate approach sooner rather than later. Indeed progressed Mars will remain in a square with progressed Jupiter for the next few years. Caution , caution, caution, please.
Finally note how the trine between the natal Saturn and progressed Mercury ( semi-square progressed MC) is activated by a retrograde transiting Mercury, leading to communication restrictions on the population ( both natal and transiting Moon at 6 Gemini in the chart).
Sometimes there is just too much astrology “going on”!
